Learning Outcomes:
After the completion of this course, students will be able to:
Develop proficiency in reading and writing Hiragana, Katakana, and an introduction to Kanji.
Acquire accurate pronunciation of Hiragana and Katakana; learn basic greetings, self-
introduction, and vocabulary related to colors, food, and beverages.
Gain an understanding of Japanese etiquette, the significance of names, and cultural concepts
like Omoiyari & Sekinin.
Learn practical Japanese for everyday situations like weather talk, name card exchange, and
classroom interactions.
Understand basic Japanese grammar, including numbers, time expressions, family member
terms, counters, and usage of particles.

Unit I: An Introduction to Japanese Language The Writing System, Pronunciation, How to write
Hiragana and Katakana, Greetings, Self
Introduction, Colours, Food and Beverages.
Unit II – Japan and Japanese Culture Etiquettes, About names, Omoiyari & Sekinin Vs
Meiwaku, Weather Talk, Name card exchange,
Classroom Japanese.
Unit 3: Japanese Grammar Understanding Japanese Grammar, Numbers, When (Time), Family members,
Counters, Basic rules
of Grammar, Particles.
